Here’s the thing about “waiting”- we so often run into trouble when our own expectation isn’t met by reality, or God’s plan and timing.

Waiting is hard. Patience is difficult to muster up. And finding peace in this space seems like a daunting task.

But here is what I know – God’s timing is perfect, and purposeful. He has plans and intentions that see the full picture, where we only see a small snapshot.

That’s the only way I find peace – is knowing that this waiting is purposeful.

Purposeful means with intention, with a plan. Why would I ever choose my plan or my timing over God’s? I wouldn’t. Because His plans are far greater!

Our family’s life verse is Ephesians 3:20, “Now to Him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to His power that is at work within us.” Meaning, He is always at work – and capable of far better plans and more perfect timing than we are.

And I can’t even begin to list all the times I thought I had the “right plan”, and it wasn’t God’s plan. And I can say confidently that every time, His plan was far better than mine!

The other aspect of these moments of waiting is that it shapes our character. In fact, it might be a whole lot less about the timing, and a whole lot more about our hearts.

One of my favorite quotes I heard years ago is “sometimes God doesn’t change your situation because He is trying to change your heart.” What if we fully let go of our expectations and timing and instead looked solely to the cross for our peace and contentment, trusting in God’s timing and plan?

In these days and weeks of waiting, I am learning (and re-learning when I allow myself to get anxious) that His timing is perfect. These extra days of rest, quality time as a family of three, and time to pause as a family and married couple have meant everything to us as we wait to meet our second child. And God knew we needed that!

So whatever it is you’re waiting for — a new job, a baby, a new house, a relationship, a healing or a changed circumstance — my prayer is that today you will find peace. That you will know that He, the God of the universe, has a divine plan and purpose for this time of waiting, and His timing is perfect. He is good for His word and promises, and will be faithful. We just need to let go of our expectations and keep our eyes on Him.

Hope this meets you where you are today!
