I’ve been looking at ways to cut back on “unnecessary” spending because I’ve been listening to all the amazing podcasts challenging me to not give up what I want (in the long term) for what I think I want now (in the short term). And as simple and silly as this may sound, lip gloss/stick/stain is a simple way that I can save a few bucks!

I have used many amazing lipsticks that I’ve purchased from Mac, Dior and Charlotte Tilbury. But I have to be honest – I am just not good with my lipsticks. I misplace them and lose them, forgetting I even have them in the first place. This is just not a good way to steward my resources – so I recently set out to find some new lip stains/glosses/sticks that I like that are under $10 each and am sharing my favorites with all of you!

(Lip colors in the above image are in the order of the list below!)

Nyx Liquid Suede Cream Lipstick (Tea & Cookies) – $7, if you follow me on Instagram you know my love for this lipstick! It is the perfect color for spring that is not too pink and not too orange or red. It is creamy, goes on easy and looks great with Nyx Butter Gloss layered over it.

Burt’s Bees Lip Crayon (Hawaiian Smolder) – $9, Oh this one is good! It is lightweight, has great color and is super easy to apply (I love lip crayons for that reason). I was hoping it would have a nice scent since it’s Burt’s Bees, but it really doesn’t have a scent at all. It  has a subtle shine (that feels really moisturizing) – and will definitely become a new favorite in my purse. The only thing that would make it even better is if it had SPF.

L’oreal Colour Riche Shine Lipstick (Lacquered Strawberry): $10, this is a really soft and smooth lipstick – it feels really similar to the Burt’s Bees Lip Crayon actually, except it smells a little better. This color is a pretty bright pink for summer and is a great option if you don’t want to deal with a lip pencil because it has really good/easy to apply coverage.

L’oreal Color Riche Matte Lipstick (Moiselle Pink) – $6, this is a great smooth, classic lipstick. This color is a great option for the work place, not too pink, and would work great fall and winter months. It has the traditionally lipstick smell, but wears really similarly to my Mac lipsticks (but it over half the price).

Burt’s Bees Liquid Lipstick (Flushed Petal) – $5, I was pleasantly surprised with this gloss. The color when applied is very true to the bottle, and is pretty long-wearing. I was hopefully that it would smell nicer (since it’s a Burt’s Bees product), but it smells like a traditional gloss/lipstick. I think applying this over a lip liner would be great for a more formal occasion – but this would also be a great lip gloss to keep in your desk at work or car to get some quick and easy color.

Nyx Butter Gloss (creme brulle) – $5, this is my favorite sheer gloss. It adds a really subtle color that looks good on everyone – seriously, I gave it to a bunch of girlfriends at our Favorite Things Party and everyone is in love with it. Smells great and looks perfect layered over the Nyx Liquid Cream Seude Tea & Cookies color. I want to keep one of these glosses in every purse, car, desk, drawer etc.!

Burt’s Bees Lip Shine (Whisper) – $7, this is a really nice smelling (like apricots) lightweight gloss that doesn’t feel quite as “sticky” as some glosses do. This gloss comes in a tube and is really sheer, but the color it does add is a light peachy-pink.

Nyx Slide On Lip Pencil (Bedrose) – $8, I am really picky when it comes to lip pencils and this is the only one I tried and really liked. It was creamy and easy to blend – which is the key (in my opinion) for a lip pencil! This is a great pinky-nude and layers well under all the glosses I reviewed above.

Hope you enjoyed this post and found some new lip colors to try! Be sure to tag me on Instagram when you use them – I’d love to see you wearing them!
