I’m not just saying this – I love dating my husband! And since having kids we have been really intentional to take time to grab a sitter and go on dates together. It is so important for your marriage!

One of our favorite things to do together is checking out new spots and doing more “activity based” dates. So today I wanted to share a few ideas of “activity based” dates that would be fun for just the two of you, with a group of friends and even as a family.

Schram Vineyards & Brewery (Waconia, MN) – We love this place! It’s definitely more of a drive for us, but it’s worth it. They have a lot of grounds and is one of the only (if not the only) vineyard and brewery in the state. They offer live music and a food truck many weekends and is so fun to sit outside, play a game of bags and enjoy the grounds.

Driving range (any local golf course) – We love this option and do it often on Fridays before picking up the girls from daycare! We head to a local driving range (we like Southern Hills because it’s so close to our house). We grab a chilled beverage and hit the driving range for about an hour and then go grab the girls or head out to dinner on a patio somewhere if we have a sitter! At Southern Hills (and I think many other courses) if you are only going to the driving range you only have to pay for the balls (which is about $6 I believe). So this is a great option to do something you can both enjoy, be active and not break the bank!

Downtown Stillwater (Stillwater, MN) – This has been our go-to date day spot since we were teenagers. We love this town! It’s a great area to just meander around the main street and window shop or taste delicious olive oils at Stillwater Olive Oil Company! There are great restaurants (outlined below) and after you walk the main street be sure to grab ice cream at Leos walk-up ordering station and head to the river for great views and walking areas to enjoy. Stillwater has events downtown on the riverwalk often – a fun family-friendly one to check out is Lumberjack Days that happens mid-summer! There is also an apple orchard and winery just outside of downtown Stillwater (Saint Croix Vineyards) that is really kid-friendly and perfect for a picnic.

  • The Freight House: Large outdoor patio with river views, kid friendly and great for a salad, burger or nachos. Definitely a casual option.
  • Brick and Bourbon: This is a really cool space with exposed brick and as you can imagine – great drinks. The food was really good and it’s a great spot for date night right on the main street.
  • Domacin: This is a little off of the main street but is well worth the walk up a few blocks. They are known as a “wine bar” and the cheese platters are too good to be true. It’s a really fresh and bright space and the food and service doesn’t disappoint.
  • Dock Cafe: In my opinion this is the most formal and traditional option Stillwater offers – it is right on the river and has the most beautiful views from the patio. The food is all delicious (this is also a great spot for a nice brunch) and service is great!
  • Reve: This is a new location but the food is wonderful and has great reviews. Located just North of Main Street it looks like it’s new patio is beautiful and I’m sure the food is great here just like it was at it’s old location.

Northfield Farmers Market (Northfield, MN) – Running from June 1 – October 1 is the Market Fair in Northfield. It is right along the river and this is one of our favorite activities to do as a date or a family on beautiful Saturday mornings. There are delicious treats for breakfast, fresh veggies, a coffee cart, occasional live music and plenty of grass to have a little picnic right on the river. There are also great coffee shops on the main street and a great little boutique (Mainstream Boutique) where I always find cute clothes. The market is also right next to a olive oil shop (Northfield Olive Oils and Vinegars) that is fun to taste and pick up some nice oils for salad dressings in the summer.

Riverside area of Hudson (Hudson, WI) – We have actually only just discovered Hudson! We went there a month or so ago and I was surprised at how many wonderful shops and restaurants we found. I don’t have anything in particular I can recommend specifically – but it is definitely at the top of our list to go back out there and explore!

Red Barn Pizza Farm (Northfield, MN) – This is such a fun way to spend a summer night. This is another option that is fun for a date night, a group outing or bring the kids along. You order a delicious made-fresh organic pizza (they only take cash or check) and enjoy a picnic on the grounds. Unfortunately the original barn was severely damaged by a tornado, but they are rebuilding (what looks like a gorgeous) barn and they are still open for the season. They are open every Wednesday and the third Sunday of the month – visit their website for dates. Be sure to bring along drinks, a blanket or chairs for your picnic!

Keg and Case Market (Saint Paul, MN) – If you haven’t been to this place you need to check it out! This place is packed with local shops, food vendors and more. It is relatively new and a great place to wander around and explore and grab a bite to eat. There is a beer tasting area up top that you can bring food up to and sit and people watch. Definitely a must-visit!

Victoria Burrows (Victoria, MN) – This is a fun spot to check out when the weather isn’t as nice. They do have a decent sized patio – but all of the activities are indoors. They offer mini golf, axe and knife (yikes) throwing and arcade games. The food is set up as “food trucks style” where you go up and order from different counters for yourself – and they offer lots of options like street tacos, burgers, nachos etc.

dress  |  denim jacket  |  heels  |  sunglasses  |  purse

There you have it! Some different date ideas for both indoor and outdoor options in the Twin Cities area. There are so many more fun things like a Twins Game, Canterbury Park, the Zoo… it’s impossible to list them all. But hopefully gives you a fun new idea or two!

Happy dating!
